PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health said that the State House Dome will shine green Saturday night in recognition of National Injury Prevention Day.

RIDOH said the lighting aims to bring attention to efforts to stop injuries and violence, which are the number one causes of death and hospitalization nationally for people ages one to 44.

It is the first time the dome will be lit for National Injury Prevention Day.

“All of us, at every stage of life, can act to prevent injuries and violence,” Interim Director of RIDOH Utpala Bandy said. “We can all take steps to make our homes and communities safer places to live.”

RIDOH added that falls are the most common injury sending Rhode Islanders to the emergency department.
