EF-1 Tornado touches down in Mattapoisett

MATTAPOISETT, Mass. (WLNE) — The National Weather Service Storm Survey Team confirmed Tuesday afternoon that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Mattapoisett.

According to officials, wind speeds reached an estimated 95 miles-per-hour when it touched down at the corner of Acushnet Street and Hereford Hill Road.

The tornado was on the ground for approximately three minutes and traveled a total of 0.9 miles, leaving numerous pine trees downed and broken.

ABC 6 News crews were on El Dorado Drive in Mattapoisett where damage from the storm was evident.

Crews were actively assessing the damage and cleaning up fallen trees and dealing with downed power lines.

Homeowners told ABC 6 News that they’ve never seen anything like this in their lives.
