ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WLNE) — A huge wooden cross is now on display at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette on Saturday.
The Ukrainian Cross of Gratitude is nearly 800 pounds and was carved from Ukrainian oak in 2003.
Organizers said the cross’ mission is to “prepare for the 2000th Jubilee anniversary in 2033 of the crucifixion of Christ and to unite the nations of the world as one family by his cross.”
The cross has traveled around the world, including through 46 European capitals, and has been blessed by Popes John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis.
The cross will be on display from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily through Feb. 4.
