‘I’m into leadership’: Lincoln mayoral candidate Stan Parker discusses campaign

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Stan Parker, a former Husker and radio executive of MyBridge, is hoping to exchange his title for mayor of Lincoln.

Parker, who announced his bid for mayor last October, sat down with Channel 8 to discuss his campaign.

“The big core message that I want people to know as far as who I am, what I stand for and what I would bring to the office is that I’m a leader, not a politician,” he said. “Not demeaning politicians necessarily but I’m not into politics, I’m into leadership.”

Public Safety is a hot topic among each candidate and Parker vows to “optimize leadership and solidarity” within the city.

“There’s a very strong concern over not feeling necessarily like the administration has their back at the end of the day,” he said. “I just think there’s a cultural change that needs to come about and part of that starts with the administration.”

Another highly publicized issue has been Lincoln’s roadways. Parker said he initially didn’t want to discuss streets while campaigning but retracted once he heard community-wide frustration.

“I’m not saying there’s something magical that will come to the table that would just fix all the roads,” he said. “I’m not going to make that promise, because I don’t know that’s possible, but I do want to address the level of frustration in terms of our roads in some way.”
