‘Immeasurable loss’: Nebraska State Patrol gives update on crash that killed trooper
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska State Patrol is grieving the loss of a trooper who was killed Monday in a crash near Ashland.
At a news conference Tuesday, Col. John Bolduc — the patrol’s superintendent — provided an update on the crash on Interstate 80.
“Our Nebraska State Patrol family is hurting today,” Bolduc said.
Around 9:20 a.m. Monday, Trooper Kyle McAcy and another trooper responded to a crash involving a Nebraska Department of Transportation snowplow and two vehicles.
During the response, McAcy asked the plow driver to move the snowplow.
As McAcy walked away, the plow began to reverse, Bolduc said.
McAcy was then hit by the snowplow, and witnesses alerted the other trooper, who was helping a driver involved in the crash.
Troopers and other bystanders tried saving McAcy’s life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash, and the Iowa State Patrol is inspecting the snowplow.
“Please keep Kyle, his family and friends, our troopers, our dispatchers and all of our NSP teammates in your hearts and prayers as we grieve this immeasurable loss,” Bolduc said.
We honor Trooper Kyle McAcy’s life of service and how he impacted the world.
Thank you to so many who have reached out with support in the last 24 hours.
