Immigrants share stories of how they came to Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Hub Cafe was abuzz Friday night with food, stories and friendship.

Lincoln officials and other community leaders organized Where We Belong, an event geared toward being more welcoming to immigrants in Lincoln and part of National Welcoming Week.

Many people were able to tell about where they came from, and how they came to call Lincoln their home. Several of those stories included intense hardships.

“Being able to hear other people’s stories, and also my own story, how my family came here, that was really touching,” event organizer Soulinnee Phan said. “I couldn’t be more humbled, or more touched, to hear other people talk about how they came to Lincoln.”

The organizers are planning several more events throughout the rest of the year, calling it Welcoming Week and Beyond.
