Initial t’storms possible Monday; watching late week severe threat

Temperatures fell below freezing both Saturday and Sunday mornings for what very well may be our last freezes again until fall. Sunday morning our low temperature in Lincoln fell to the middle 30s. Sunday night into Monday morning will be about 10 degrees warmer.

Past Lows

Speaking of warmer, we’ll be warming up quickly by Monday thanks to some south and southwest winds gusting around 30 to 40 mph, during the late morning timeframe especially. This week will be bookended by highs in the upper 70s on Monday and Friday.

Week Ahead

This looks to be another active week of weather, with several rounds of storms possible. The first round comes Monday night after a passing cold front. This will be a weaker round of isolated storms that not everyone will see – better chances south of I-80. Some isolated showers possible into early Tuesday morning.

Then by the end of the week, the potential for severe weather returns. Thursday’s risk at this point (Day 5) is just to the south through Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. That potential is close enough that we’ll keep an eye for at least some marginally severe weather in Nebraska.

Thu Spc

On Friday (Day 6), the Storm Prediction Center has eastern Nebraska – including Lincoln – highlighted in a 15 percent chance for severe weather.

Fri Spc

There remains a lot of details to be worked out in the coming days, but Thursday and Friday will be just the start of an active period that continues off an on into the weekend as well.
