Inmate assaults staff member at Nebraska State Pen.
The Nebraska Dept. of Corrections says an inmate at the Nebraska State Penitentiary in Lincoln, assaulted a staff member on Sunday night.
It happened just after 7 p.m.
The inmate struck the staff member in the face multiple times, after refusing a request to return to a secure area.
The staff member went to the hospital and received several stitches to the lip.
NDSC is investigating the incident with findings provided to the county attorney to determine if it will be criminally prosecuted.
They say it could result in sanctions, such as loss of good time.
