Investigation starts after man breaks into Grand Island teen’s home
Man breaks into teen's home and demands money
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KLKN) — Grand Island Police launched an investigation after a teen girl reported that an unknown man had entered her home early Tuesday morning.
A 14-year-old girl was sleeping at her home in the 200 block of 11th Street around 5:45 a.m. when she heard a noise, GIPD capt. Jim Duering said. The girl found who she described as a black male in a ski mask demanding money when she woke up.
The girl said the man asked her, “Do you want to be hurt?” However, she also reported she did not see a weapon.
Officers said she told the man there was money in another part of the house and to go get it. The girl took this opportunity to run across the street to a neighbor’s house and call GIPD.
Officers found evidence that the back door of the home was forced open upon arrival. Duering said the officers took fingerprints but do not have any suspects at this time.
No property was reported stolen, according to GIPD.
None of the neighbors reported any incidents and the break-in seems to be isolated.
Anyone with information or video surveillance footage is urged to call GIPD at 308-385-5400.
