‘It makes it really tough’: Lincoln coin shop expresses struggles after second burglary

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln coin shop was burglarized for the second time Wednesday night causing significant damage to the store.

Around 9 P.M., owners of Nebraska Coin and Collect near 42nd and O streets received a call from their security system about a break-in.

After arriving to the store, they noticed a broken window and $200 to $400 worth of missing items.

“He just took some proof sets, mint sets,” said Store Manager Blake Glaser. “I mean probably anywhere from like $200 to $400 in value, plus the window which is, who knows how much that’s gonna be.”

Glaser also found a broken golf putter below the shattered window.

The owners have surveillance video of the incident where they noticed the suspect came from the back alley before entering and exiting through the window.

“Yeah when I was cleaning out, I found a broken golf putter, so I’m guessing that’s what he used to break the glass,” Glaser said. “Police took that and hopefully they can find some fingerprints or something with it.”

This is not the first time a crime like this has happened at their store.

Owners have images from an earlier burglary where it appears to look like the same person but they are unsure if the crimes are connected.

Blake says it is always disheartening when something like this happens, especially because it is a family-owned business.

“For me it’s just tough cause it’s my dad wanting to run a small business and when things like this happen, it makes it really tough for small businesses to run their business and everything,” said Glaser. “I kind of feel for him and any other small business owners that have stuff like this happen to them.”

The owner said they are going to be on high alert in the coming weeks and are looking at adding more security.
