LINCOLN, Neb. Storms sped into Lincoln late Monday night, bringing multiple trees, branches and power lines down.

Two tornadoes touched down overnight in southeast Nebraska, including an EF-1 in Lincoln.

That tornado didn’t hit northeast Lincoln, but the wind damage there was extensive.

Fallen trees and broken branches lined the streets.

One tree was blocking 51st Street near Nebraska Wesleyan University’s campus, so cars couldn’t pass through.

Another tree near Leighton Avenue was snapped in half and took a power line down.

Multiple people who live in the area said the storms woke them up.

One man was shocked by the amount of damage the storms brought to the northeast part of the city.

“The power went completely out,” Dustin Oltman said. “We heard a lot of loud noise over our roof itself. On my block, there’s a lot of damage. It honestly sounded like there was a tornado that went through. At one point, there was a flash of light. It was really scary.”

Another couple said they were happy they took shelter when they did.

The storm left about 4,000 people without power Tuesday morning, but it has been restored.

The awning at a Phillips 66 gas station nearby on 48th Street fell over, nearly hitting the building. No one was injured.
