‘It’s a girl!’: Lincoln Children’s Zoo reveals gender of Humboldt penguin chick

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Children’s Zoo has revealed the gender of its newest hatchling.

“It’s a girl!” the zoo said in a Facebook post on Friday.

The Humboldt penguin chick — offspring of mom, Sharkbait, and dad, John Henry — hatched on Dec. 15.

The zoo announced the chick’s hatching on Jan. 15, sharing several photos along with the announcement.

Since then, officials said the chick has started exploring out of the next box and seems “very curious about the world around her.”

The chick remains behind the scenes with her mom and dad as she continues to grow and develop waterproof feathers.
