‘It’s a therapy session’: John Cook gets pulse on Nebraska volleyball at O Street Hy-Vee
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Husker volleyball coach John Cook gets therapy with a walk inside Hy-Vee at 50th and O streets.
At a press conference Tuesday, Cook said he goes to the grocery store to get a pulse on how people feel about Nebraska.
“I know how people feel about Nebraska volleyball by just walking through that Hy-Vee, and the checkout people, because they tell me everything,” he said.
Cook said he can’t go 10 feet without somebody talking about the team, especially after the Huskers’ record-breaking match in Memorial Stadium.
“I almost feel like it’s a therapy session going in there,” he said.

And there is a lot of excitement surrounding Nebraska, as the Huskers went undefeated in nonconference play, which included wins over Stanford and Creighton.
But that doesn’t matter. Cook said the Huskers are starting a whole new season when they begin conference play on Friday.
“It looks like we’re 0-0, so that’s where we’re starting,” he said.

Cook splits up the Nebraska volleyball season into three sections: nonconference, Big Ten and postseason.
Conference play is the toughest of the three, according to Cook.
“I think it’s harder to win a Big Ten championship than a national championship because you got to grind over 10 weeks,” he said.
Nebraska is ranked second in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. Conference rival Wisconsin occupies the top spot.
The Huskers open conference play against two ranked opponents this weekend: No. 12 Minnesota and No. 21 Ohio State.
