LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Arts Festival brought artists together from all across the country on Father’s Day weekend.

The festival included diverse works of art and innovative demonstrations.

Nearly 100 creatives joined other culinary artists and live musical performances to create an engaging and educational atmosphere.

Many local artists at the festival said they hope to sell much of their art at the event, but it’s the community environment that is most important.

Denise Wheeler, an artist who traveled from Illinois to showcase her art at the festival, supported these artists and agreed that the community is what provides her joy.

“The sales are nice, obviously I would love to make money from my art, but the interactions with the people really are the fuel,” Wheeler said. “When I go back, I feel all fired up and inspired and I just wanna make more stuff, and sometimes conversations lead me to painting a different animal. It’s just awesome, it’s magic.”

Wheeler shared some of the creative process behind her artistry, saying that much of her art stems from personal memories with family.

“From an enjoyment perspective, art that’s personal takes you somewhere,” she said. “When I’m painting the swans I photographed on that family lakeside vacation, I’m remembering all those memories around the campfire with my family.”
