‘It’s never a bad day for pie’: Assisted living residents and staff thanked with sweet treat

SYRACUSE, Neb. (KLKN) – It’s National Assisted Living Week, so one daughter thanked her mom’s facility with a sweet treat.

Good Samaritan Society Assisted Living is home to Betty Groleau, and her daughter decided to bake a bunch of pies for a tasting.

“It’s the best pie I ever had,” resident Jane Green said. “The crust was just so fluffy, the cherries were sweet, and the chocolate was chocolatey.”

Annette, Betty’s daughter, came up with the idea after talking with multiple caretakers, who all had a different favorite pie.

Of course, Annette had to bring her mom’s favorite, which is a tart rhubarb pie.

“I used to make lots of rhubarb pies, sometimes strawberry rhubarb,” Betty said.

Annette brought all types of pie to the facility, ranging from chocolate and apple to a new flavor called blue Hawaii, which had a mix of blueberry, coconut and pina colada flavor.

One resident said chocolate was her favorite because it was so creamy.

“I’m sampling next an apple,” Green said. “I’m not really a fruit pie eater, but I’ll definitely eat these.”
