‘It’s not normal’: Fremont faces another round of hail damage following Monday’s storm

FREMONT, Neb. (KLKN) — Severe storms ran through several places in eastern Nebraska on Monday night.

Hail stones the size of golf balls slammed into Fremont once again, leaving a trail of devastating damage.

Some businesses are still trying to recover from April’s hail storm.

Longtime Fremont native Dave Lincoln said workers were replacing the roof of Mel’s Diner from the last storm, only to come to work Tuesday to find the restaurant flooded.

“It’s still draining,” Lincoln said.” “It’s like all the rooms were catching water.”

One woman told Channel 8, she feels like she’s running out of patience and money.

She said it’s disheartening to have to fix her roof twice in one season.

Lincoln said he stayed up listening and watching the storm.

“It was about 2 o’clock, I hear the wind blowing so I’m running into the living room,” he said. “I looked out the window and you just couldn’t see nothing.”

Lincoln said he stepped outside Tuesday morning to see his fireplace, car, patio, and roof damaged.

And after living in Fremont for so long, he said these unexpected storms seem to come with a force.

“It’s not normal for it to get this bad and no one expected it.”
