Jack-knifed semitrailer shuts down eastern Nebraska highway for several hours

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A jack-knifed semitrailer closed a highway in Douglas County for several hours on Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office was called to the road hazard on Highway 36, just northwest of Omaha.

The semi narrowly missed an abandoned vehicle on the highway, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Highway 36 was shut down for over three hours while crews straightened the semi out.

The sheriff’s office reminds drivers to stay home ahead of Thursday’s winter storm.

A winter storm warning starts at 3 p.m. and lasts until 9 p.m. Friday for much of eastern Nebraska.

Channel 8 Meteorologist Jessica Blum said there is a potential for heavy snow and wind gusts nearing 40 mph.

“If you must drive in these conditions pay extra attention and drive at a speed that is reasonable given the conditions,” the sheriff’s office said.
