Lincoln home explosion ruled murder suicide, police say

Officials have determined that a home explosion that killed a Lincoln couple was a murder-suicide.

The blast, which happened at a home near 78th and Old Cheney last August, ultimately led to the deaths of Jim and Jeanne Jasa.

Jeanne Jasa died from burns she received on August 29th, with her husband, Jimmy, passing away in hospice care on May 2nd.

Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said the manner of death for Jeanne Jasa was changed from undetermined to homicide.

Bliemeister said the manner of death for Jimmy Jasa was changed to suicide.

Officials say nobody else is suspected in the case, and that the blast was determined to have originated inside the home.

Officials could not comment on any kind of motive at this time.

The blast damaged more than 30 homes in the neighborhood

Since last August, the investigation has been handled by Lincoln Police, city attorneys and the Lancaster County Attorney’s Office.

An attorney representing the estate of Jeanne Jasa filed a tort claim in August claiming the city, police department and energy provider Black Hills Energy of negligence that led to the death of Jeanne Jasa.

The claim seeks more than $4 million.
