John Cook wants Husker fans ‘fired up’ for afternoon match against Georgia Tech
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska volleyball is hosting a regional match Thursday for the first time in six years.
But for No. 1 Nebraska, it’s just another match in front of the Husker faithful.
“It’s always packed, it’s always loud, and they’re always just ready to cheer us on and support us,” libero Lexi Rodriguez said Wednesday.
Coach John Cook said he’s “fired up” and wants fans to bring the same energy for the match against No. 5 Georgia Tech.
“We can blow the roof off this place,” he said. “I don’t want any excuses that they haven’t had time to fire up.”
If the Huskers defeat the Yellow Jackets, they will move on to face the winner of Arkansas vs. Kentucky on Saturday.
“I’m surprised the governor hasn’t canceled everything tomorrow so everybody can watch,” Cook said.
Last year, the Huskers were defeated in the first round of the regionals in a five-set match against Oregon.
But that match is in the past.
“This is a whole new team of a very competitive group of girls,” Rodriguez said. “And I think we’re all just ready to get out there and just keep taking it game by game.”
Nebraska’s match against Georgia Tech will be broadcast on ESPN2 at 1 p.m.
