Josh Collingsworth Memorial Foundation hosts dance competition for annual benefit
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation held “Dancing with the Star City Benefit” Saturday evening to support Josh the Otter and Float for Life.
The fundraiser was a friendly dance competition between well-known community members in Lincoln, such as State Senator Suzanne Geist and basketball coach Fred Hoiberg.
Channel 8’s Rod Fowler was also there to judge the competition.
Josh the Otter was created to raise awareness about water safety in honor of Blake and Kathy Collingsworth’s son, Joshua, after he tragically drowned in 2008.
“He fell in the water, and did not have the skills to rescue himself,” said Blake Collingsworth. “That’s what our float for life program is, to give children those skill sets. They float on their backs, like an otter, and that’s kind of the whole premise of Josh the Otter.
The Collingsworths were hoping to raise over $100,000 through the event. When Channel 8 spoke with them, they were already close to hitting their goal.
