UPDATE: JPA wants public input on two Haymarket proposals

UPDATE:

On Tuesday, Mayor Chris Beutler and the rest of the West Haymarket Joint Public Agency talked about the future plans for development.

“The success of Pinnacle Bank Arena and the West Haymarket area have exceeded all of our expectations,” Beutler said.

He said it’s time to plan the next steps for the area.

It starts with two proposals.  The first is to buy the former Jacobson Cold Storage property for a little more than $2 million, to build a new park and plaza.

The other would sell a half block near Canopy and Q streets to real estate company WRK, so they can build a new mixed–use building.

Beutler said the two proposals would complete the original West Haymarket vision.

“Together, these two projects represent the continuation of the successful West Haymarket buildout and a crucial first step for the future of the area south on N. Street.”

NU Regent Timothy Clare said West Haymarket developments will attract much of the university’s graduates.

“Our best and brightest talent should be staying right here in Lincoln, right here in Nebraska after they graduate,” Clare said.  “Developments like the West Haymarket will keep talent here.”

The JPA will hold a public hearing on the proposals next Thursday.  They encourage Lincolnites to attend that and share their thoughts.
