Judge denies bond for man accused of killing ex-girlfriend in Seward

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Seward County judge on Wednesday denied the bond for a man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend earlier this month.

Kindt is charged with five felonies, including first-degree murder, use firearm to commit a felony and child abuse.

His first appearance in Seward County Court is scheduled for March 5, according to court documents.

Kindt, who is in custody at UNMC, is expected to appear via Zoom at the next hearing.

On Feb. 8 around 11:45 p.m., Kindt went to the home of his ex-girlfriend, 36-year-old Jamie Hagen, and fatally shot her, the Nebraska State Patrol said.

Kindt then shot himself, and authorities took him to the Seward Memorial Hospital.  He was later taken to UNMC for additional treatment.

Hagen had filed for a protection order against Kindt in December 2024, an arrest warrant affidavit says.
