Kansas man arrested after teen went missing in western Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Kansas man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the kidnapping of a North Platte middle schooler.

An arrest affidavit out of Lincoln County says 26-year-old Cameron Quintin of Topeka was arrested.

On Wednesday, the North Platte Police Department was made aware of a girl who’d left Adams Middle School without permission.

School surveillance showed she met a man at the recreation center across the street.

The two hugged before leaving in a Toyota Tacoma with out-of-state plates, according to court documents.

The teen is in the legal custody of the Department of Health and Human Services and had been placed with her grandparents.

Police spoke with the teen’s grandparents, who said she didn’t have permission to leave the school.

The grandparents also said their granddaughter had taken an extra bag to school, which was out of the ordinary.

Police were able to find the truck’s plate number after a review of city surveillance.

An arrest affidavit says the truck was registered in Georgia but was rented from an agency in Topeka, Kansas.

After chatting with the rental agency, police determined that Quintin had rented the truck.

The rental agreement provided Quintin’s phone number, which was traced through Nebraska back to Topeka, where he would later be arrested.

North Platte Police announced that the middle schooler had been found safe a few hours after she’d been reported missing.

Quintin has been charged in Lincoln County Court on suspicion of kidnapping and violating a custody order.

He was lodged in the Shawnee County Jail on $50,000 bond. Quintin is awaiting extradition back to Nebraska.
