Did you miss the morning shows? Click the video or read below for a full breakdown of your Friday and Saturday forecast.
We will finish off the end of the year with quiet weather today, but winter weather will kick off 2022 right after we hit midnight! A cold front will push through this morning and this will bring increasing wind speeds and clouds for your Friday. Temperatures will be close to normal for the end of December though, with highs in the low 30s at noon. The cold air from the front will then drop temperatures as we head into the evening and overnight.
The frigid arctic air won’t arrive until late this evening as temperatures drop into the single digits. If you plan on staying out late for New Year’s Eve, make sure to dress in heavy layers to ensure that you stay warm. Wind chill values after midnight will drop below zero and snow will begin to fall around 3 AM.
A Winter Weather Advisory will go into effect right around the time the snow starts to fall at 3 AM Saturday. This warning is in effect for all of southeast NE and will remain in effect until midnight on Sunday. Snow will spread across the entire southeastern half of the state by 6AM and it will continue to fall into the evening hours. The snow won’t officially exit the state until the late evening hours.
Snow totals have increased a little further to the north as of this morning. Southern Lancaster County and south onto the Kansas side could now see over 6″ of snow. Areas from Omaha into Red Cloud will likely see 3-6″ and to the north of Grand Island around 2-4″. Keep in mind that this snow total map could change later today as new weather data comes in!
The snow isn’t the only concern for tomorrow though. Wind chill values early Saturday morning will be subzero with some of you feeling as much as 20 degrees below zero! Highs during the day will only reach the single digits for most, with feels like temperatures still below zero for the entire day. Make sure to limit your time outdoors to avoid frostbite while shoveling.
