KLKN hosting debate between Lincoln mayoral candidates Geist, Gaylor Baird

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Channel 8 will air a debate between the candidates for Lincoln mayor.

“Channel 8 is excited about the opportunity to serve our viewers, and the people of Lincoln by producing this debate,” KLKN General Manager Kern Dant said.

Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and former State Sen. Suzanne Geist will debate at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 23.

The debate will be broadcast live from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Don and Lorena Meier Studio on KLKN Channel 8, KLKNtv.com, and 90.3 KRNU.

“Our mission in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications is grounded in the ethical pursuit of truth to uphold democracy,” said Shari Veil, professor and dean at the college. “We appreciate the opportunity to host this debate and for our students to engage in this important democratic process.”

The debate will be moderated by veteran television broadcaster and Channel 8 Anchor Rod Fowler.

The hourlong debate is brought to you commercial-free by AARP. The debate will include vetted questions from Lincoln residents and UNL students. You can submit your questions here.
