KLKN viewers donate 450 bicycles to the Lincoln Bike Kitchen

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Hundreds of people stopped by the KLKN parking lot on Thursday to donate bicycles.

Channel 8 collected 450 bikes for the Lincoln Bike Kitchen, which fixes up bicycles and donates them to people in need.

As people dropped off bikes, one man — who wants to remain anonymous — also made a $10,000 donation.

Bike kitchen President Bob Von Kaenel said monetary donations help cover expenses not related to the bikes.

This donation will help the nonprofit with its move to the old Municipal Pool Building in the Telegraph District.

“We’re having to rehab that building,” he said. “We’re building some storage space, redoing the lighting and the floors before we can move in.”

The bike kitchen said this is the most bicycles it has collected in a single day.

Last year, the nonprofit gave away more than 1,300 bikes.

Von Kaenel said the kitchen is expecting to give more this year.
