Kloefkorn Elementary raises over $5,000 for the Food Bank of Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Kloefkorn Elementary School students just raised over $5,000 for the Food Bank of Lincoln.

The student council presented the check to the food bank during an assembly on Friday.

The goal was to raise $1,000, which both the students and staff thought was a tall order.

But everyone came together and brought coins and bills to feed the hungry.

The money will go a long way. With $5,000, the food bank can give out more than 15,000 meals to people in need.

The kids got to learn early the importance of giving back to the community.

“I think it’s super important just to get our students involved in the community at a young age and just really realize the impact that they can make on our society,” said Maya Arrigo, a fourth grade teacher.

The students were happy to have an impact on others around the holidays.

“Knowing they’ll be happy during the holiday season because they have food, it just feels really good,” said Sadie Puckett, a member of the 5th grade student council.
