200 cars rev up for Lincoln cruise raising money for survivors of O Street crash
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A special cruise took place Monday to help two people injured in the deadly Memorial Day weekend crash on O Street.
Midwest Rollers Car Club and Rebels Auto Club teamed up on Labor Day in hopes of raising $35,000.
Aaron Swanson and Hannah Wadiso were injured in the crash on Memorial Day, which killed two and injured 18 others.
Todd Francisco, president of Midwest Rollers Car Club, said he wanted to give the two survivors a chance to have a positive cruise experience.
“We just thought we’d honor and get them out here and raise money for the medical bills,” Francisco said.
The event started at 11 a.m. They stopped at Mahoney Park to show the cars before cruising down O Street and ending at the Lincoln Airpark.
“It feels really good to see all of the support around and to see how many people actually showed up,” Swanson said. “It was more than I expected.”
Their GoFundMe for their hospital bills has already raised around $6,000 as of Monday night.
Francisco said they had around 800 people and 200 cars attend the event.
Wadiso said the cruise held a deeper meaning for her.
“It made me feel really safe and conquered my fear about cruises,” Wadiso said. “It just made me realize that I don’t have to be afraid anymore.”
