Labor Day will feel fall-like, as meteorological fall begins
Meteorological fall starts with September, based on the annual temperature cycle. So if you need an excuse to start putting out fall decor, there it is!
September is full of changes – the seasons battle it out especially early on, attempting to switch over from summer to autumn. High temperatures drop to the middle 70s, while overnight lows get closer to the upper 40s.
We also continue to lose a lot of daylight over the course of this month.
Labor Day has started out somewhat chilly so far… temperatures at the airport falling to about 50 degrees around 4 a.m. Monday. We haven’t seen temperatures that cool since June 5th!
Plan on a pleasant holiday to extend a longer weekend. It’ll feel fall-like with low humidity and temperatures in the 70s.
Stronger winds will impact western Nebraska with warmer temperatures and rather low humidity.
The combination of those factors will lead to an elevated fire risk for the Panhandle. A Red Flag Warning will be in place for Monday and Tuesday afternoon/evening. Any fires that could spark would spread rather quickly under these conditions.
Temperatures will be warmest Wednesday ahead of another cold front that will spark storm activity. We’ll be on the lower end of receiving much from that round, other than cooling back down again over the weekend.
In all, enjoy what’ll feel like a top-10 day this Labor Day!
