Lancaster County election official says Tuesday’s election could be record-breaking

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Tuesday could be a record-breaking election night, Lancaster Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen says.

Officials have been busy tallying early votes for the Lincoln general election since 3 p.m.

The first round of results is going to be released at 8 p.m., which is also when the polls close.

During this election, Wiltgen has noticed an increase in voters.

“Based on my experience, from an outsider looking in, we’ve definitely seen an increase in interest in our city elections,” Wiltgen said. “I think you’ll see a record turnout at tonight’s election, pushing 40%, if not higher.”

He also said that the election office has already seen a record number of early ballots cast during this election.

“We’ll be counting, this afternoon, roughly 32,500 ballots. That alone is a record,” Wiltgen said. “And that does not include any early vote ballots that we receive in today’s mail or in the office.”

Again, early vote ballots are still accepted until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the election commission’s office, which is located at 601 N. 46th Street.

Wiltgen reminds voters that their vote matters and to stay in line.
