Lancaster County health department hosting hazardous waste collection events

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Got hazardous waste? The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department can help you get rid of that.

The health department is hosting two hazardous waste collection events on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, people can dispose of waste at the Bennet Fire and Rescue building (480 Fir St.) from 2 to 6 p.m.

Then on Saturday, the health department will host an event at Star City Shores (4375 S. 33rd Court) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

City officials say they will not accept business waste at the events.  More information on how to dispose of business waste can be found at haztogo.com.

Accepted items include: pesticides, lawn and garden chemicals, household cleaning products, paint thinners, stains, polishes and waxes, turpentine, oil-based paint, pool-cleaning chemicals, flea and tick powders, rodent poison, charcoal starter fluids, mixed or old gasoline, brake or power steering fluids, and items containing mercury such as compact florescent lightbulbs and thermometers.

Prohibited items include: latex paint, motor oil, antifreeze, fertilizers, gas grill cylinders, medicines and pharmaceutical waste, electronics, firearms, ammunition, and batteries. Hazardous waste is also accepted at Lincoln’s Hazardous Waste Center at 5101 N. 48th St., which is open on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
