Lancaster County inmate dies at hospital

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lancaster County inmate died in custody Monday.

Melvin Botts, 62, was booked into the Lancaster County Jail on Oct. 16.

Two days later, he was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Botts was being treated for a chronic medical condition, according to the Lancaster County Department of Corrections.

He was serving a sentence for driving with a revoked license and also awaiting trial in a separate case.

A grand jury will investigate his death, as required by state law.
