Lancaster County sheriff: 1,144 pounds of ‘black market’ marijuana found in moving truck

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Deputies with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office found 1,144 pounds of marijuana coming from “the black market” in a moving truck on Interstate 80.

On Wednesday, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a moving truck that was following another car too closely while headed eastbound.

During a traffic stop around 10 a.m., deputies found probable cause to search the vehicle when a strong smell of marijuana came from the cab.

A search of the truck found 1,144 pounds of marijuana that was being shipped from California to Illinois.

The drugs are worth between $2.3 million and $3.4 million, according to Sheriff Terry Wagner.

He said that despite the marijuana coming from a legal state, it was deemed to be from “the black market” because it did not come from a dispensary.

Daniel Cardinel Sr., 43, of Missouri was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
