LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a stolen vehicle.

Just after 12:40 a.m. Friday, deputies were sent to Waverly on the report of a stolen vehicle.

When deputies arrived, they learned that a 2012 Chevrolet Captiva — worth about $9,000 — was taken out of someone’s garage.

According to the sheriff’s office, the garage was left open and the keys were inside the vehicle.

On the back bumper of the car, there are big red letters that read “Big John.”

“This time of year we need to make sure people know, especially in Waverly and Hickman, we’ve seen to have issues in the past,” said Chief Deputy Ben Houchin. “Always lock your doors and keep your windows closed. Do not, even if you lock your doors, leave any kinds of keys in there. And always remove valuables.”

“We’ve got some extreme heat and people will leave their cars running with the AC on,” said Houchin. “You’re just begging for somebody to come and steal it.”

Deputies are currently out looking for the vehicle, and the investigation is ongoing.

If you see the vehicle or have any information on its whereabouts, call the sheriff’s office at 402-441-6500.
