Last day somewhat “cool” with hazy skies
Normal temperatures at this time of the year peak at 90° before they continue to drop steadily the rest of the year. Tuesday will be our last day likely of this month and into early August of being slightly below normal with temperatures topping out in the upper 80s.
Early on, some patchy fog will be possible again. Yet most of the visibility impacts throughout the day will be from another source.
Numerous wildfires are ongoing again in Canada and in the Pacific Northwest. Most of that smoke is filtering into the Midwest and down into Nebraska, making the skies discolored in browns and grays.
The good news is that smoke concentrations at the surface should still be rather low to not see too much of an impact on the air quality, or the air we breathe. Impacts could be higher though with more smoke mixing down to the surface for those in western Nebraska.
Still we’re chugging along on the gradual warming temperature train, too. After today, we’ll return to the 90s for a while looking ahead.
Humidity will be noticeable over the coming days, but temperatures will only “feel” a degree or so hotter with dew point temperatures hovering in the upper 60s through the end of the week.
Hotter days look to be in the extended forecast, looking into the end of the month and early August.
The current temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center has Nebraska and much of the upper States very favorable to experience above normal temperatures during that timeframe. Above normal for us would be above about 90°.
