LATEST: Authorities release timeline of events in double homicide case

Authorities released new information regarding the arrest and ongoing investigation of a man accused of killing a Douglas, Nebraska couple.

The suspect, Brindar H. Jangir, 36, of Sioux City, Iowa, was arrested Saturday afternoon, March 30, by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in California.

Jangir was in Mexico and attempted to regain entry into the United States on foot. He was arrested without incident at the Otay Sentri border crossing, approximately 40 miles southeast of San Diego.

Jangir was wanted for the murders of Randal and Annette Grimes, of Douglas, Nebraska. Both victims were found deceased in their home after the Otoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunshots at 100 Otoe Street in Douglas at approximately 6:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23.

In addition to an Otoe County warrant for murder, Jangir also has a warrant from Lancaster County for a stolen firearm, which was used to commit the murders.

On Monday, authorities released a timeline of events in the case.

March 12 – Authorities say a former domestic partner of Jangir arrived at a domestic violence shelter

March 13 – Jangir is served with a protection order

March 23 – Jangir obtains a shotgun from Lincoln, along with a small sword. Around 5:50 a.m., a short 911 call is received from the home of Randal and Annette Grimes. A deputy from the Otoe County Sheriff’s Office arrives on the scene and finds the bodies of Randal and Annette Grimes, a shotgun, and a small sword. Around noon, a team of investigators arrives at the crime scene and the search for Jangir begins.

March 24 – Jangir purchases a 2006 black BMW in Texas. Authorities had originally determined he drove a red Honda Accord.

March 30 – Jangir is taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents in California

March 31 – Two investigators from the Nebraska State Patrol fly to San Diego County to continue the investigation.

Authorities say Jangir is expected to appear in a California courtroom either Monday or Tuesday. It’s unclear when he may be extradited back to Nebraska.

He faces two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

Officials said Monday the initial findings indicate the cause of death for both Randal and Annette Grimes was gunshot wounds.
