Law enforcement agencies in Nebraska team up for awareness campaign

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has partnered with law enforcement agencies across Nebraska for a drunk and impaired driving campaign.

The awareness campaign focuses on driving, especially on today’s proclaimed holiday; 4/20.

Increased enforcement will have police officers, troopers, and dispatchers working overtime for the initiative.

Nebraska State Patrol Sergeant Mike Thorson discussed what they’ll be looking for on the roads and let citizens know to plan ahead.

“First and foremost, we want to position ourselves in areas where we think we’re going to have to run into possible impaired drivers,” said Thorson. “There are a lot of rideshare companies, and it is so easy and nowadays inexpensive for a person to find that sober ride, so that’s the first thing we always encourage, just plan ahead and have that ride available.”

The campaign will continue through April 24th across the state thanks to the grant provided by NHSTA.
