Law enforcement discover human remains at site of North Platte fire
After the remains were located they were removed and secured, said the Sheriff's Office.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The North Platte Police Department, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Fire Marshal Agency say they have found human remains at the site of a fire that occurred last week.
While the Sheriff’s Office did not identify the remains, it said in the same social media post that law enforcement will continue to search for 37-year-old Jerome Vieyra.
An autopsy is scheduled for next week to identify the remains and determine the cause of death. The case remains under investigation.
On March 24, North Platte Police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of Rodeo Road and Carr Avenue. Multiple callers also reported fireworks in the area.
Upon arrival at a commercial building at 1900 Rodeo Road, officers found Vieyra inside a burning building near an overhead garage door.
North Platte Police said officers ordered Vieyra, the property owner, out of the building, but he refused to follow their instructions and retreated into the building. He was last seen inside the building.
The fire, which is thought to be arson-related, destroyed the building.
