Lawyer for restaurant owner raided Thursday says his client is “completely innocent”

The attorney for Abram Monzon, the owner of restaurants raided by Homeland Security Thursday said his client is “completely innocent.”

Monzon owns Las Margaritas, Mazatlan I and Mazatlan II and El Toro.

22 employees of those restaurants were arrested by special agents for what they called immigration violations.

All but one of those arrested has been charged and released.

Monzon said his client wasn’t arrested, and he is the victim in this situation.

He said Morales has not hired any undocumented immigrants.

Monzon said Homeland Security is unfairly targeting innocent business owners in a misguided attempt to “fix a broken system.”

Morales and his family have lived in Lincoln for more than 30 years.

Monzon said Morales is a “pillar in this community who has spent his lifetime serving this community.”

He wouldn’t comment on if investigators took anything from the restaurants.

Las Margaritas and the Mazatlan on N. 27th were back open Thursday. The Mazatlan on 70th and P was not.

El Toro was unaffected

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office was involved, but only to act as security during the situation.

Chief Deputy Todd Duncan said the Sheriff’s Office doesn’t actively investigate or enforce immigration violations.
