Cooking fire causes significant damage to Lazlo’s Brewery & Grill in south Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – We now know what sparked a fire at a popular restaurant in south Lincoln on Tuesday.
Lincoln Fire & Rescue spokeswoman MJ Lierman said staff was cooking on a woodfire stove when it burst into flames.
She said it happened around 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday at Lazlo’s Brewery & Grill near 56th and Old Cheney Road.
When crews arrived, they saw flames coming from the roof, Lierman said.
She said one crew went inside upon arrival and extinguished the fire in the kitchen while another crew worked on the roof. The blaze was completely extinguished after 15 minutes, Lierman said.
She said the fire went from the stove up into the exhaust system. Flames could be seen out of the metal seems, Lierman said, but only damaged a little bit of the insulation and siding.
However, Lierman said the kitchen and restaurant portion of the building suffered significant water and smoke damage.
Investigators are still working to determine the exact total damage costs.
According to a Facebook post, Lazlos is closed until further notice.
Lierman said about 20 people were inside the building at the time of the fire but had all evacuated when crews arrived. No injuries were reported.
