LEGO builders and creators unite for Brickdays at Lancaster Event Center

An ever growing LEGO convention called Brickdays was in Lincoln today. It is the event’s 5th year.
The owner of Hobbytown USA in Lincoln first started the Brickdays expo in the back of the store.
“It’s all ages, all genders, it’s really good quality time that you get to spend with LEGO, and that’s really why so many people like it and people are having fun this weekend doing it,” organizer of the event and owner of Hobbytown USA, Daniel Schmidt said.
Those who play are dubbed as ‘creators.’
These creators came from all around the Midwest to showcase their achievements.
“I just like how everyone is here showing off stuff that they’ve put a lot of time into, it’s just very fun to see everything,” 13-year-old creator, Hayden Shoemaker said.
“There’s not that many toys these days that you’re working with your hands, as well, there’s a lot of creativity and imagination, especially when you’re building your own creation,” Schmidt said.
“If you look behind us, that’s just a few of the things we’ve done. The possibilities are endless and if you know what you’re doing, you can do about anything,” 16-year-old creator, Josh Gonzer said.
All creators say the imagination stretches far beyond what is laid on the table.
“It’d be a dream even to just go to Denmark once in my life, because that’s where they were made, it’d be a great experience. I mean, I’m looking into the architecture field so that would be something to build off of this,” Gonzer said.
Activities at the event ranged from a massive building table to a ramp for racing your own cars against each other, and what could be better way to play, than with someone else.
“It’s almost therapeutic just being able to build and relax for a little bit, and it’s a lot of teamwork, we do argue quite a bit, but it’s some teamwork when we work on stuff,” Gonzer said.
You can still check out the Brickdays expo tomorrow.
The creators are expected to come in the thousands the entire weekend.
