LES crews back in Lincoln after helping out with Hurricane Michael relief

After a week in Florida, LES crews returned home to Lincoln on Friday afternoon.
Crews from Lincoln and Grand Island were deployed to the Tallahassee area to help restore power following the aftermath of Hurricane Michael.
One of the men who volunteered to go, Josh Schmidt, talked about what the crew experienced in the sunshine state last week.
“There were a lot of trees down. That’s what most of the problems were coming from. We had to do a lot of overhead work, so had to go in and put the pulls in and do all the work to get the power back on,” said Schmidt.
Schmidt said the crews worked 16 hour shifts from Saturday to Tuesday.
Thankfully, no one was hurt while completing their work.
They reached their goal of helping to restore power to 90 percent of the area by Sunday night.
“I am just glad that we got the opportunity to go and help out other communities because that’s what LES is, we help out as much as we can to where-ever we need to go,” said Schmidt.
The workers who drove down to Tallahassee now get a few well deserved days off.
Schmidt says he and the rest of the crew will be back at work Monday morning.
