Cat killed in Lincoln house fire sparked by unattended burner

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Fire & Rescue fought flames Tuesday at a home in the South Salt Creek neighborhood.

The fire was reported just after 9:30 a.m. at a house near Second and E streets.

A neighbor called in the fire after seeing smoke coming from inside the home, LFR spokeswoman MJ Lierman said.

A stove burner was left on with a pan on top of it, Lierman said, sparking the fire.

The blaze spread from the kitchen to the attic.

No one was inside the home, but a cat died in the fire, Lierman said.

Friends have started a GoFundMe page to help the family that lived in the home.
