LFR crews extinguish kitchen fire at west Lincoln home
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Fire & Rescue battled a kitchen fire Thursday at a home in west Lincoln.
A neighbor reported the fire near Southwest 16th and Sewell streets around 2:10 p.m.
LFR spokeswoman MJ Lierman said an outlet shorted out in the kitchen, starting the fire.
The flames spread to the surrounding room before crews extinguished the blaze.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury, according to LFR.
The fire caused $100,000 in damage to the structure and $50,000 in damage to the contents.
Lierman said the residents weren’t home and the kitchen hadn’t been used recently.
No smoke detectors were found, according to Lierman.
