LFR responding to hazmat incident in north Lincoln
LFR is asking people to avoid the area between Superior to Judson and 48th to 62nd.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – UPDATE: Lincoln Fire and Rescue Chief Mark Majors tells Channel 8 that cleaning crews have begun to vacuum up the spilled liquid.
LFR is finishing up a sweep of the building to make sure the rest of the building is safe. During a sweep, LFR identified the liquid in another area but that has also been contained.

UPDATE: According to Lincoln Fire and Rescue Chief Mark Majors, as of 3:30 p.m. the spill was confirmed to be contained to one section of the building.
Crews are currently waiting for a mitigation team to further assess the spill.
LFR is working in cooperation with the Health Department and Continental to keep people and the environment safe.
According to Continental’s Communications Manager of North America, Anthony DiGiacobbe, “A chemical solvent leak occurred at ContiTech’s Lincoln facility this afternoon at approximately 12:00 p.m. Ensuring the health and safety of our team and community is our primary focus at this time. We are working closely with Lincoln Fire & Rescue/HazMat, and Lincoln Lancaster County Health officials to protect surrounding areas. The facility was immediately evacuated when the leak was discovered and there were no injuries.”
LFR continues to ask people to avoid the area to allow crews to easily access the area.

UPDATE: Nancy Crist, Public Information Officer for LFR, says, “there is no risk to the public at this time, the risk remains on site.”
Crist tells Channel 8 that 500-1,000 gallons of flammable liquid were spilled inside of the factory. Hazmat crews continue to do recon work inside of the factory to assess the risks and figure out how to clean it up.

LFR says there is no threat to the public at this time.
