Fire causes over $500,000 in damage to compactor at Lincoln recycling center

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Several Lincoln Fire & Rescue crews responded to a fire Tuesday at a recycling center in north Lincoln.

The fire was reported around 10:30 a.m. at Firstar Fiber near 48th and Superior streets.

LFR spokeswoman MJ Lierman said first responders could see smoke from a mile away.

Employees reported that an electrical panel started a fire, which spread to a compactor.  The fire has since been extinguished.

Lierman said the structure wasn’t damaged, but the compactor had between $500,000 and $1 million in damage.

No one was injured.
