LFR responds to fires at Cornhusker Hotel, BNSF fuel pump house

Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews responded to a pair of fires on Sunday and Monday.
The first fire, called in around 3 a.m. Sunday at the Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel, began on the fourth floor, according to LFR spokeswoman Nancy Crist.
The hotel had to be evacuated for several hours, with guests housed temporarily in a convention center, Crist said.
The fire was caused by a bag of clothes that was placed near a wall-mounted heater in one of the rooms, Crist said.
Estimates for damage due to smoke and water are $100,000.
Crews also responded Monday to a fire at single-story steel shed at a BNSF fuel pump house.
Once inside, firefighters found six inches of fuel on the floor of the pump house.
Crist said the fire was caused by a broken rubber boot on one of the fuel lines that spilled fuel and was ignited by a pilot light on a water heater.
That fire also caused an estimated $100,000 in damage.
