LFR responds to fire at abandoned grain elevator in west Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A fire broke out Wednesday night at an abandoned grain elevator in west Lincoln.
Lincoln Fire & Rescue crews were called to the scene near Sixth and G streets just before 8 p.m.
Black smoke was seen coming from the elevator, an LFR spokeswoman said.
A mattress and some other items in the lower level were burned, LFR said, but there was no damage to the structure.
No one was injured in the fire, according to Battalion Chief Jim Bopp.
The cause is still under investigation.
The elevator has been abandoned for decades, Bopp said.
LFR thinks homeless people or squatters were staying there.
