LFR responds to grass fire near downtown

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. 

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – UPDATE: A grass fire west of downtown took three hours to extinguish, according to Lincoln Fire and Rescue.

Southwest Fire and Airguard came to assist in extinguishing the fire.

LFR had to shut down the railway as the fire was burning.  There were no structures involved other than some transient homes.

The cause is still unknown, according to LFR.  They say the cause is unlikely to ever be known.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews are responding to a grass fire west of downtown Lincoln.

The grass fire was reported near First and O Streets around 4 p.m. on Wednesday.  The grass fire is in the field behind the People’s City Mission building.

LFR said it let the fire burn in the open area and eventually put it out.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
