LFR: Trailer home a total loss after Monday morning fire

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln Fire and Rescue (LFR) responded to a single-family home trailer on fire near N 27th and Cornhusker Hwy around 10:45 Monday morning.

On their way to the location, LFR noted a large black column of smoke on the horizon.

The trailer was fully engulfed in flames, firefighters couldn’t even go inside the home because the structure was unsafe.

Fire Inspector Switzer determined the cause to be a propane heater, which was close to combustibles in the home.

The trailer was deemed a total loss after sustaining $10,000 in damage.

A neighboring trailer home suffered minor damage, as the siding was melted due to the heat.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported. LFR reminds Lincolnites that propane heaters are not designed to use indoors. Not only are they a fire hazard but also a CO poisoning hazard.
